Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important representative commented the vandalism made him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
